Hanamkonda: All the state governments in the country should be accorded the right to amend the proportion of reservations in their respective states, suggested Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari.

He said the states should be allowed to bring in the changes in the reservations configuration sans the Central government’s approval or control.

This he said in the backdrop of TRS government’s efforts to offer reservations to Muslims in the State. Srihari attended the 126th birth anniversary celebrations of BR Ambedkar in Hanamkonda on Friday.

Addressing the gathering, he said there have been changes in the composition of ratio of different castes in the State after formation of separate State. Therefore, the State government has decided to enhance reservation quota to justice to all the communities.

Being a visionary BR Ambedkar has anticipated the necessity of creation of smaller states in India 64 years back and that helped formation of separate Telangana, noted the Deputy CM.

Because of the provisions incorporated in the Indian constitution, the people in Telangana could realise their six decades dream. Ambedkar was a global personality and that was why his birth anniversary celebrated in the UN, he said.

The TRS government has been drawing inspiration from Ambedkar’s ideas and coming out with various measures for dalit and downtrodden welfare. Nearly Rs 40,000 crore was allocated to welfare activities.

The Deputy CM and Minister A Chandulal, ZP Chairperson G Padma, MLA D Vinay Bhasker, Mayor N Narender, Warangal Rural and Urban district Collectors Prashanth J Patil and Amrapali Kata, city Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu, KUDA Chairman M Yadava Reddy and others garlanded the statue of Ambedkar in Hanamkonda.

Marking the occasion, Ambedkar Jayanti was celebrated by different political, social and governmental agencies. At Congress Bhavan, the party leaders N Rajender Reddy, Rajanala Srihari, K Srinivasa Rao and others have cut a cake and paid tributes to Ambedkar.

At NPDCL, the CMD A Gopal Rao garlanded the portrait of Ambedkar and said great visionaries like Ambedkar strived for the country. At TSRTC regional office, Regional Manager T Surya Kiran and staff celebrated offered floral tributes and recalled Ambedkar services to the nation.

At KU, the SDLCE director Prof Ch Dinesh Kumar, Registrar Prof MV Ranga Rao and others garlanded Ambedkar’s statue. Similar programmes were at the CPI, CPM, TDP and other offices across the district.
