​Bhupalpalli: The police have arrested a Maoist militia commander and two militia members in Venkatapur mandal of the district on Wednesday. The trio, hailing from Chhattisgarh, has been operating in Bhupalpalli district for the past several years.

They were taken into custody during inspections by Venkatapur police, the district special party and CRPF personnel at Suraveedu and Bodapuram.

According to Eturunagaram sub-division ASP Rahul Hegde, the arrested were identified as militia commander Madivi Idama and militia members Routhu Hanumaiah and Kursam Nagesh.

They are natives of Kothapalli village of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh. Idama, who was made Venkatapur area committee of CPI (Maoist) commander, used conduct recce on police movements and pass on information to the party leaders.

He and the two others used to supply provisions to the Maoists, besides putting up banners and posters.

Idama was accused of involving in planting landmine on Suraveedu village outskirts in June 2016 and in November of the same year, he had put up a banner and planted a landmine at the same area targeting the police, Hegde said.

A civilian and an auto-rickshaw driver were injured when the landmines exploded. When the trio was arrested, the police found Maoist posters.

No weapons or arms were seized from them. A case was registered against them and they were sent to judicial custody, he added.
