Equitable compensation sought for Lingampalli oustees
The Lingampally villagers’ relay hunger strike demanding a fair compensation to their land entered 75th day on Wednesday. It may be noted here that the villagers have been up in arms against the State since the government on February 2, mooted a proposal to develop Malkapur Tank into a 10 tmcft balancing reservoir in a bid to stabilise the ayacut under Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme.
Janagaon: The Lingampally villagers’ relay hunger strike demanding a fair compensation to their land entered 75th day on Wednesday. It may be noted here that the villagers have been up in arms against the State since the government on February 2, mooted a proposal to develop Malkapur Tank into a 10 tmcft balancing reservoir in a bid to stabilise the ayacut under Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme.
TPCC general secretary Bakka Zudson, who expressed his solidarity with the protestors at Lingampally, criticised the government’s stubborn stance over the apprehensions expressed by the locals.
“The government is trying to mislead the people stating that GO 58 is beneficial to the locals,” he alleged, stating that the GO 58 is no different to that of earlier GO 123. Though the High Court quashed both the GOs, the government was trying to woo the people to procure the land at a throw away price, he alleged.
The government is reportedly going through with the soil tests even before the district administration has organised the Gram Sabha which is mandatory, he said, demanding the government to provide compensation on the lines of Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
Congress leaders Banoth Balu Naik and Challa Tirupathi were among others present. It may be noted here that the Malkapur reservoir is aimed at quenching the thirst of the locals and as well as those living in Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation limits.
