Mahabubabad: Pulling up the doctors and staff of Primary Health Centres for registering very low numbers of institutional deliveries, District Collector Dr Preethi Meena ordered the government hospitals to increase the number of institutional deliveries and create awareness among the people regarding the facilities available in the government hospitals.

Reviewing the functioning of various PHC’s along with percentage of deliveries conducted, here at Collectorate Conference Hall in Mahabubabad on Wednesday, the Collector expressed displeasure after knowing that only 30 per cent of deliveries were conducted in government hospitals.

“Government is providing facilities akin to corporates by investing crores of rupees for the welfare of poor. Despite that, the deliveries conducted are low due to the negligence of doctors and staff at PHCs.

It is very sad to know that for past five months not a single delivery was conducted in some of the PHCs,” the Collector said. Knowing that only 458 deliveries were conducted till date in 18 PHCs present across the district, the Collector ordered the District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) to transfer the erring officials to agency areas and pay salaries as per their performance.

“An ANM must conduct at least one delivery in a month taking the help of ASHA workers, otherwise their salary will be withheld,” warned the Collector, ordering the DM&HO to visit PHCs regularly to inspect their functioning.

She further ordered the Medical officers to visit the sub-centres regularly to examine the pregnant women and suggested them to shift the women to either Area Hospital or to Warangal Maternity hospital in case of critical conditions.

She further informed that the government would soon implement ‘Amma Odi’ and distribute ‘KCR kit’ to pregnant women in four phases.

By enrolling the names of pregnant women, who attend for deliveries in the government hospitals, the PHCs must implement the scheme successfully in the district, ordered the Collector.

DM&HO Dr Sri Ram, Deputy DM&HOs Dr Venkataramana and Rama Rao, Medical Officers of PHCs and ANMs attended the meeting.
