After the fiery rains and hailstorm wreaked havoc on paddy fields two weeks ago, the fire engulfed nearly 35 acres of paddy field in separate incidents that took place in Nalgonda and Suryapet on Tuesday. In one incident nearly Rs 2 crore worth cotton bales were reduced to ashes.
Nalgonda: After the fiery rains and hailstorm wreaked havoc on paddy fields two weeks ago, the fire engulfed nearly 35 acres of paddy field in separate incidents that took place in Nalgonda and Suryapet on Tuesday. In one incident nearly Rs 2 crore worth cotton bales were reduced to ashes.
Sources said in Pillalamarri village of Suryapet mandal, as many as 25 acres of paddy fields of three farmers caught fire and burnt to ashes. The fire broke out when the spark from the high tension wires passing through the fields fell on the standing crop.
After receiving information from farmers, fire tenders rushed to the spot and put out the fire before it spread to other areas. Meanwhile, victim farmers demanded compensation from the government and immediate removal of high tension wires passing through their fields.
Similarly in Pagdimarri of Kangal mandal, paddy fields, palm and other trees spread in 10 acres caught fire after a farmer, preparing the land for next crop, set ablaze the waste in his farm.
In a similar incident, about Rs 2 crore worth cotton bales caught fire at Om Sai Cotton Mill located at Gadiya Gowraram of Chintapalli mandal in Nalgonda district in the early hours on Tuesday.
Fire tenders rushed to the spot and put out the fire after receiving information from the Mill owner, Venkateshwarlu. The reason behind the accident is yet to be ascertained.
