A district-level workshop on special package for shepherd communities was organised for Tahsildars, Mandal Parishad Development Officers (MPDOs) and Veterinary Assistant Surgeons (VAS) at the Rural Development Office in Jagtial on Wednesday.
Addressing the officials at the workshop, the Collector asserted that there would be neither mediators nor contractors but only officials in implementing the scheme.
There are about 19,000 shepherd families with 60,000 population in the district. Sharath directed the officials to form committees with shepherds above 18 years of age and interested in sheep rearing before May 5.
A three-member committee with Tahsildar, MPDO and VAS should organise awareness programmes in villages to inform the people of shepherd communities about the scheme.
The Collector told them to organise meetings in villages to take applications from the shepherds and to select 50 per cent of beneficiaries for the present year and the remaining 50 per cent for next year through lottery system,” he suggested.
The officials told to identify government, barren, empty and society lands to grow fodder for sheep and cattle and insure the sheep presently they are having and also to those, which would be purchased for distribution under the scheme along with tagging all the sheep.
Additional Director of Animal Husbandry Ashok Raju presented power point presentation and explained about the rules and regulations to be followed in implementing sheep distribution scheme.
Metpalli Sub-Collector Mushraf Farooqi, Rural Development Officer G Narendar, District Forest Officer Ramesh, Additional Director of Horticultural Department Jyothi, District Assistant Officer Ramanuja Chary and Tahsildars, MPDOs and Veterinary Assistant Surgeons were present in the one day workshop along with others.
