Deputy District Medical and Health Officer L Bhaskar directed the officials to take steps for preventing malaria in the district. He said on the occasion of World Malaria Day, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has decided to wipe out the deadly disease with the theme ‘End Malaria for Good’.

Speaking at a meeting held with the officials of health department and with the staff of Paramedical department here at District Medical and Health Office in Khammam on Tuesday, Bhaskar ordered the officials to conduct programmes to create awareness among people over the disease and the vectors that carry the malarial parasite. In the regard, he urged people to keep their surrounds dry to prevent breeding of mosquitoes, which carry the parasite.
People suffering from fatigue and fever must visit doctor and undergo diagnosis. He asked the officials to take steps to inhibit the larval growth of mosquitoes along with fogging in the water lodged areas where mosquito breed more.
District Malaria Officer Dr Ram Babu explained the steps to be taken to protect from mosquito bite and asked the people to wear clothes that covers their entire body apart from using mosquito nets.
Meanwhile, prizes were handed over to the students of Nursing College who won the essay writing competitions conducted on the occasion of World Malaria Day and appreciation certificates to the health officials who performed their duties perfectly.
Zilla Parishad Chairperson Gadepalli Kavitha, Municipal Commissioner Srinivas, Programme Officer (AIDS and Leprosy) Dr Prameela and the officials of Health department were present along with others.
