St Georges Club defeated Siberian Tigers in the first round of the Samuel Vasanth Memorial basketball Tournament scoring a narrow one point win, the score line reading 49-48 at regulation time.

In a match that could have gone either way, both teams resorted to man-to-man marking making it difficult for the opponents to have a free way into the restricted area.

A couple of sporadic attacks from Bala and Shreeram took Serbian Tigers to a 3 point lead at halftime (26-23). Sahil was impressive with his ball handling skills and precision passing resulting in Darsh scoring baskets with consummate ease for the winner.

The second half saw a close tussle for supremacy and once again it was Darsh who chipped in with baskets at crucial intervals to see St. Georges through by the proverbial whisker at 49-48.

Fine marksmanship from Bala and Shreeram for Siberian Tigers went in vain as they failed to get the required support from their teammates.

Result: St/ Georges 49 (Darsh 14 Sahil 9) bt Serbian Tigers 48 (Bala 21 Shreeram 16)
