​Khammam: Planting of saplings under Haritha Haram will be a continuous process, said Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna, who inspected a nursery at Mudigonda in Khammam on Friday.

Speaking to media later, the Minister said as many as 100 crore of saplings would be planted in forest regions and about 120 crore in the areas other than forest regions apart from 10 crore saplings in GHMC and HMDA areas in coming up days.

The Minister further informed that as many as two crore saplings were being grown in nurseries in Khammam apart from taking steps for growing saplings in the houses by forming Haritha Rakshana Committees in villages.

Ramanna on the occasion felicitated Padma Shri awardee Vanajeevi Daripalli Ramaiah for his invaluable contribution to extend the green cover in the State.

Despite being born into a middleclass family, Ramaiah realising the importance of plants strived hard for extending the green cover by planting more than one crore saplings in Khammam district and became ideal for many of present generation, the Minister said.

Along with Ramaiah and his wife Janamma, the Forest Minister planted a sapling on the premises of Forest department office.

District Forest Officer Sunil Shairamath, Forest Conservator G Narasaiah, Deputy Forest Conservator Ch Prakash Rao, Forest Ranger G Prasad, Sattupalli Forest Officer Sathish Kumar, Forest Officials Venu Madhav and Kavitha were also present along with others.
