Bhongir/Suryapet: Tension prevailed at agricultural markets in Yadadri and Suryapet districts when Telangana JAC Chairman Professor Kodandaram visited them on Friday.

As part of his tour after examining the paddy purchasing process at Bhongir Agriculture Market, Kodandaram visited Mothkur Agriculture Market. Upon his arrival, local TRS leaders who were present at the market raised slogans against Kodandaram and asked him to go back.

Shocked associates and local supporters of Kodandaram got into a tiff with TRS leaders and questioned their authority in preventing them from entering the market. Within minutes, scuffle broke out between the two groups.

On information, local SI Ravikumar rushed to the spot and requested Kodandaram to leave the place to avoid any untoward incident. When the TJAC chief was heading towards Tirumalagiri, TRS supporters again blocked his vehicle and demanded him to cancel his tour and go back to Hyderabad. Police intervened and escorted the Professor to Mothkur outskirts.

At Suryapet market, Kodandaram and his team faced similar bitter experience as both TRS leaders and supporters of Kodandaram got into duel with each other. Here too, the situation came under control after the intervention of local police.

Speaking to media later, Kodandaram expressed his angst over the distasteful behaviour of TRS leaders and supporters. He said the government was suppressing the freedom of expression.

Stating that farmers were forced to approach middlemen due to government’s apathy, the TJAC chief threatened to launch an agitation if government failed to solve the problems of farmers within a month.

Advising the government to be practical with regard to welfare of farmers, Kodandaram demanded the government to implement free fertiliser scheme from this Kharif apart from MSP and waiver of crop loans.

Kodandaram arrested

Meanwhile, police on Friday arrested Kodandaram while he was going to meet the farmers as part of his Rythu yatra in the state. The JAC chief was arrested between Kusumanchi and Paleru in Khammam district.

Police said Kodandaram had no permission to take up yatra and they were arresting the leaders based on the orders of higher officials.
