Mulug: The anger of chilli farmers over lack of profitable price was just not limited to Enumamula agriculture market in Warangal, but has been spreading to mandal headquarters in other districts as well.

A large number of chilli farmers have on Tuesday resorted to flash protests at Mulug mandal headquarters in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district protesting over poor price being offered to the produce. The irate farmers have burnt a huge quantity of chilli on the main road expressing their anger.

They staged a rasta-roko for about two hours demanding profitable price to chilli. The farmers demanded the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, to respond to the crisis and ensure measures to offer Rs 12,500 per quintal chilli.

“Following an appeal by the State government, the farmers have taken up chilli and pulses in the current season instead of cotton. But when the produce was taken to markets, the traders were offering Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 per quintal chilli,’ lamented farmers Subhasha Reddy, Rajender Goud and others.

With the amount offered to the produce, the farmers were not even able to recover their labour charges. As a result they were forced to resort to suicides. Several farmers were not even harvesting the crop and leaving it in the fields, they said.
