Khammam: Opposition party leaders on Tuesday laid siege to entry points to Khammam demanding remunerative price for chilli.

TPCC Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who consoled the family members of those arrested in connection with the ransacking of market yard case, assured them of providing legal assistance.

“The Congress Legal Cell has deputed reputed advocates to deal with the cases booked against the farmers,” Bhatti said, accusing the TRS government of being insensitive towards the problems of the cultivators.

How could the State government, which claims itself as pro-farmer, call the cultivators as goondas? he questioned, seeking the rationale behind slapping cases against the farmers.

Asserting that all those arrested were farmers, Bhatti criticised the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for blaming the Opposition parties. The police after arresting the farmers didn’t inform their families, he faulted, terming it as the highhandedness of the government.

Stating that TRS government would pay for its mistakes, Bhatti said they would move the Human Rights Commission for justice. The Congress will fight for the cause of farmers, he added. He was accompanied by former MP V Hanumatha Rao.

TDP Sathupally MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, CPI district secretary Bagam Hemanth Rao, CPM district secretary Ponnam Venkateswara Rao and Rythu Sangham State joint secretary Nunna NageswaraRao were among other leaders who participated in the road blockade programme across Khammam district.
