Udaan Performing Arts recently staged a Hindi play ‘Saiyyan Bhaye Kotwal’ at Lamakaan. The play is adopted from the famous Marathi folk play ‘Vichha Majhi Puri Kara’ written by playwright Vasant Sabnis and was translated into Hindi by Usha Banerjee as ‘Saiyyan Bhaye Kotwal’.

Directed by Saurabh Gharipurikar, the play is a perfect example of nepotism. The story revolves around a witty prime minister. After the death of the administrative head (Kotwal), the prime minister fills the post with his undeserving brother-in-law.

According to the rules, the Kotwal post must be given to the present Havaldar (Sunjit Rao).Knowing about the truth, Havaldar along with his aide Mainavati plans to defame the new Kotwal.

The play is a slapstick comedy that brings out the political undercurrents of nepotism. The play showcased how a man, who is in higher ranks, does whatever he wants. The two-hour long play also brings to fore the rampant political injustice through witty ideas and in a comic way.

Actors include Krishna Shukla, Avakash Mahanta, Monica Rajendran, Sweekriti Goyal, Sharanjeet Kaur, Surendar Verma, Suresh Kumar, Sunjith Rao and Ashish Meagh mesmerised the audience with their outstanding acting skills.
