The World Dance Day was celebrated in a fitting manner at Our Sacred Space in Secunderabad. Natya Swara organised the presentation by six students of dance gurus—Sindhuja – Kuchipudi, Nayantara – Odissi, Rama Devi – Bharatanatyam, Chandratapa Saha Roy – Kathak, Anita Peter - Mohiniyattam and Amy Kumar – Kuchipudi.

The World Dance Day was celebrated in a fitting manner at Our Sacred Space in Secunderabad. Natya Swara organised the presentation by six students of dance gurus—Sindhuja – Kuchipudi, Nayantara – Odissi, Rama Devi – Bharatanatyam, Chandratapa Saha Roy – Kathak, Anita Peter - Mohiniyattam and Amy Kumar – Kuchipudi.

At the event the atmosphere was packed and vibrant as the youngsters eagerly displayed the results of careful teaching by their gurus of these five ancient classical dance forms which are an integral part of Indian culture.

The Kuchipudi students of Sindhuja started with invocatory verses in Hamsadhwani on Lord Ganesha. This was followed by "Brahmanjali” choreography by Vempati China Satyam in Ragamalika addressed to Lord Shiva and Siddhendra Yogi’s Swaralahari which is an instrumental with vivid movements interspersed with episodes from Krishna's life was charmingly enacted.

Rama Devi's students performed Pushpanjali followed by "Mushika Vahana" on Lord Ganesha concluding with part of Varnam on Sri Krishna in Reethigowlaa "Sthayi" in the Odissi programme of Nayantara's students was the highlight of the day as it was a complex piece which the youngsters did with great aplomb.

Mohiniattam by students of Anita Peter had two items, "Navarasa” in Ragamalika describing the nine emotions and "Ananda Ganapathy" showing Lord Ganesha with his single tusk and swaying walk. Chandratapa Saha Roy's Kathak students started with Shiv Vandana in Teentaal.

Two Taraanas, one of which was by Pandit Ravi Shankar followed done stirringly by the children. The Kuchipudi students of Amy Kumar performed Mallikarjuna Kouthuvam and Dhanashree Thillana very well.

The six gurus together performed the finale which was Bhoomi Pranam to conclude the programme which was mainly devoted to giving a platform for the young students. Swati Mahalaxmi, senior guru and Dr N Rajaram, director of NIFT graced the occasion.
