Kazipet: Fatima Cathedral here in Kazipet is set to celebrate the centennial of Marian apparitions wherein Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children at village of Fátima, Portugal between May 13 and October 13, 1917.

The reported apparitions at Fátima officially declared worthy of belief by the Catholic Church. The centenary celebrations of appearance of St Fatima have been launched by unveiling a statue of St. Fatima at the Cathedral last year by Warangal Diocese Bishop Udumala Bala.

Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, the Bishop said the celebrations would take place on May 11, 12 and 13 at the Cathedral, dedicated to ‘Our Lady of Fatima’ in grand manner. There are only two Cathedrals in country dedicated to Fatima one at Belgaum and another one in Kazipet.

The launching of Novena prayers taken place after the Bishop hoisted a flag followed by offering of Holy Mass during evening hours of Wednesday. Conventions would be held for youth on May 6, for women May 8, for children May 10 and for couples on May 11.

On May 12 the idol of St Fatima would be taken out in the streets of the city in a procession. The Bishop of Belgaum, Karnataka, Peter Machado would offer Mass and deliver spiritual discourse. Cultural programmes would be performed from 8 pm onwards.

On May 13 the Bishops of Guntur Diocese Chinnabattini Bhagyayya, Bishop of Eluru Jayarao Polimera and Bishop Bala would offer Holy Mass marking the centennial celebrations.

Thousands of devotees from across Warangal and Karimnagar under Warangal Catholic diocese and from Khammam district would attend the celebrations along with large numbers of priests and nuns from different parishes also attended the celebrations.

Bishop Bala has released a publicity poster of the event on the day. The Cathedral rector S Balashowry, Divyavani television channel regional director V Kiran, Kazipet parish committee office bearers DL Reddy, R Rajamohan Rao and others were present.
