​Mancherial: Beedi workers laid siege to the Collectorate in Mancherial on Friday demanding the State government solve their issues.

Beedi and cigar workers union leader G Lavanya said lakhs of women across the State are depending on beedi industry for their livelihood, 90 per cent of whom were illiterates. Criticising the beedi industries for not providing them minimum wages, she demanded Rs 400 for making 1,000 beedis.

The workers demanded implementation of GO 41 and cancelation of GO 81. Their demands include unconditional livelihood, dispensaries for every 3,000 workers in the mandal headquarters, scholarships for their children, 75 per cent hike in wages, ESI, PF, insurance and colony with two bedroom houses.
