​Warangal: The commissionerate CCS police on Friday arrested eight persons involved in exchanging demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes on commission basis.

The police have seized Rs 19.52 lakh currency with denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, three two-wheelers and eight mobile phones from the arrested, informed the ACP (Crimes) E Pooja.

The arrested were identified as Polepaka Ambu alias Keerthi of Labour Colony, Praveen of RNT Road, A Mahender of SRR Thota in Warangal, Kandukuri Suman of Subedari, Kanjarla Ashok Kumar of Peddammagadda, Konda Venkateshwarlu of Naimnagar in Hanamkonda, Pasukula Mouli of Madikonda and Nomula Mallikarjuna Rao of Narsaraopet, Guntur.

It was said that the accused Keerthi used to run Abhaya Foundation and under the name of Abhaya Swayamsevak Sangham, collected money from women groups and offered loans to them.

She encouraged her acquaintances to gather demonetised currency to exchange on commission basis and share the profits.

Following which, Mallikarjuna Rao provided Rs 9.88 lakh, Praveen Rs 8.87 lakh and Venkateshwarlu Rs 77,000.

On learning that amounts were taken to the main accused Keerthi, the CCS inspector P David Raju and team raided her house and nabbed the accused.
