Decries bringing of arrested ryots to court with handcuffs
Khammam: Holding the TRS government responsible for farmers’ suicides in the state, the CPI on Thursday burnt an effigy of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao protesting against the arrest of farmers and bringing them to the court with handcuffs.
Addressing the party cadre and media, party’s district leader B J Climont said the State government was treating innocent farmers as criminals. He alleged that instead of addressing the issues of farmers and consoling the family members of deceased farmers, the government was resorting to show of power by foisting false cases and arresting them.
It may be recalled that farmers who were protesting against the government seeking minimum support price for their produce were arrested on April 28. “The government lodged false cases on them and sent them to jail. And today, they were brought with handcuffs like criminals,” he criticised.
Demanding the release of arrested farmers, the CPI leader sought the government to fix MSP to bail out farmers and also pay ex gratia to kin of those who committed suicide.
He further warned of intensifying the agitation if government failed to extend succor to the farmers and their families.
District secretary of AITUC Manda Vekateshwarlu, CPI party leaders Chamakuri Venkanna, Adepu Ashok, Jwala Santhosh, Saida, AITUC leaders Gade Lakshminarayana, Chana, Nakirikanti Krishan and AIYF district leader Nanabala Rama Krishna took part in the protest programme.
