​Khammam: Stating that the Congress party is farmer-friendly, Former MP of Karimnagar Ponnam Prabhakar lashed out at the TRS government for the arrest of farmers. He came down heavily on the ruling party leaders for not visiting Khammam agricultural market and for remaining mute over the incident of bringing farmers in handcuffs to the court.

Speaking to media persons at the party office in Khammam on Friday, Ponnam alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was sleeping like Emperor Nero in Pragathi Bhavan, when the chilli farmers were struggling to get fair price for their produce.

Why the Chief Minister, Tummala Nageswara Rao and other TRS leaders have not condemned the police action of bringing farmers with handcuffs to the court. Are they terrorists or criminals? What crime they have committed?” he questioned.

Stating that TRS manifesto was a big bluff with hollow promises, Ponnam said the Congress had never opposed any project works and it had only questioned the irregularities taking place in the name of projects.

He demanded the government to release farmers unconditionally apart from fixing MSP for their produce.

Party district president Aitham Satyam, district leaders Puvvulla Durga Prasad, Deepak Chowdari, Bala Gangadhar Tilak, Bandi Mani and Narsi Reddy attended the press meet Meanwhile, the Congress party leaders burnt an effigy of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao at Mayuri Centre in Khammam on Friday protesting against the arrest of farmers.


Left parties on padayatra

In Madhira, The leaders of the left parties along with farmers took out a padayatra from Siripuram to Madhira demanding the government fix the minimum support price of Rs 12,000 per one quintal of chilli, apart from lifting the cases unconditionally that were lodged against the farmers.

Inaugurating the padayatra on Friday, CPI party leader K Gandhi said that many farmers who raised the crop after investing huge amounts of money and their hard work were rightfully demanding for MSP.

Instead of coming to their rescue, the government is gagging their voices by resorting to their arrest. Who will take up agriculture as profession if the government behaves in such an autocratic manner? questioned the CPI leader.

He demanded the government to fix the MSP of Rs 12,000 per one quintal for chillies apart from lifting cases lodged against farmers.

Mandadapu Nageshwar Rao, P Ramnarsaiah, M Saidulu, P Kondal Rao, M Shankar Rao, M Rani, Bejawada Ravi, Prakash Rao, Jinkala Anjaneyulu, P Murali and Kumari were among the protestors.
