On Monday, the Minister laid foundation stone for the revival of Modugulakunta water body of Balemla of Suryapet with an estimated cost of Rs 54 lakh.

Addressing the farmers on the occasion, Reddy informed that 234 water bodies with an estimated cost of Rs 110 crore were revived in first phase and as many as 299 water bodies, with an estimated cost of Rs 220 crore, were to be completed under second phase.

Similarly, Rs 110 crore was sanctioned for the revival of 220 water bodies in third phase. Water table in the district has considerably increased with revival of water bodies, he said.

In Suryapet constituency, 180 water bodies that were revived using Rs 74.19 crore would provide irrigation facility to 14,000 acres, he informed.

Stating that plantation and rainfall were directly proportional, the Minister urged people to participate actively in Haritha Haram programme and requested farmers to dig farm ponds and trenches in their fields to save every drop of rainwater to meet cultivation needs.

He further informed that repairs to SRSP canals would be completed within six months in order to provide irrigation for Rabi crops.

Informing that fertilizer scheme would be implemented from next year, the Energy Minister advised farmers to opt organic farming to harvest more yields.

Suryapet Agriculture Market Chiarman Y Venkateshwarlu, MPP Janaiah, Irrigation EE Sanjiva Reddy, DE Raghunath Prasad, Sarpanch Prabhakar and other local body representatives participated in the programme.
