In less than 24 hours after the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao expressed his unhappiness over the slow pace of development taking place in Karimnagar, Manair Riverfront tourism project downstream Lower Manair Dam (LMD) was off the blocks quickly with the district administration initiating preparatory works on Thursday. 

​Karimnagar: In less than 24 hours after the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao expressed his unhappiness over the slow pace of development taking place in Karimnagar, Manair Riverfront tourism project downstream Lower Manair Dam (LMD) was off the blocks quickly with the district administration initiating preparatory works on Thursday.

Manair Riverfront tourism project that has been alluring the locals for quite some time now remained a distant dream this despite the government has allocated Rs 506 crore in the budget to turn Karimnagar a major tourist destination.

The Chief Minister, in a review meeting in Hyderabad on Wednesday, has outlined the steps to be taken by the authorities in pursuance of making Karimnagar gateway city. With the revival of Fertiliser Corporation of India (FCI) as Ramagundam Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL), and the upcoming 2X800-MW Thermal Power Plant in Ramagundam is on cards, Karimnagar which is located strategically has a lot to offer for the overall development of the region.

The CM instructed Municipal Administration & Urban Development Secretary Navin Mittal to explore options for developing greenery besides submitting a comprehensive action plan and the blueprint of the proposed Manair Riverfront on the lines of Sabarmati Riverfront.

According to the plan suggested by the CM, the riverfront will be developed over a stretch of 9 kms, which includes Yoga centre, water sports and boating facility along with luxury cottages. The CM also promised to buy the first cottage at the riverfront project.

This apart, the 10.5 kms long Lower Manair Dam (LMD) will have a view point, restaurant and boating facility at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore which includes Rs 15 crore Central funds.

Speaking to The Hans India, District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad said: “The government has sanctioned Rs 25 crore to carry out preparatory activity the Riverfront project that likely to cost around Rs 500 crore.”

The Collector along with local MLA Gangula Kamalakar has started the works of cleaning the area abutting Manair river near Algunoor on Thursday. Gangula Kamalakar said that works will be carried out in accordance with the Chief Minister’s directions.
