Kothagudem: Letters and posters by Maoists which have surfaced in the temple town of Bhadrachalam have created panic among the people.
While Maoists posters criticising Central and State governments appeared in the populated areas of the town, two persons, including an MLA reportedly received phone calls and letters from them.
Meanwhile, police sources said that Yellandu MLA lodged a complaint in Tekupally police station regarding letters and phone calls from unknown persons claiming to be Maoists.
The MLA, in his complaint, said that they were demanding money from him. The police registered a case and took up the investigation.
In another case, former Congress leader, social activist and convener of Gandhipadham, B Shankar Reddy also filed a similar complaint in Bhadrachalam town police station on Thursday.
According to his complaint, two unknown persons came to his house in early hours of Thursday. Claiming they were Maoist party members, they demanded Rs 2 lakh in cash and two cell phones.
They reportedly told Shankar Reddy that they were facing trouble in Chhattisgarh due to intense police vigil. Later, they left.
Speaking to The Hans India on Friday, he said, “I am a social worker not a rich man. They (Maoists) should think about it before demanding huge sums.”
