Paying rich tributes to legendary Communist leader Puchalapalli Sundaraiah on the occasion of his 32nd death anniversary here on Friday, CPM Warangal Urban district secretary Sarampally Vasudeva Reddy said that Sundaraiah was a champion who worked for the oppressed sections.
Though Sundaraiah was born in a family of landlords, he was known for simplicity and distributed all his assets to the poor, Reddy said.
CPI district secretary Siraboina Karunakar appealed to people to carry forward the ideals of Sundaraiah with renewed commitment.
Senior leaders T Uppalaiah, Ragula Ramesh, Godugu Venkat, Janagaon Srinivas and Ajmeera Venkanna were among others present.
Later addressing a joint press conference, the CPI and CPM leaders accused the TRS government of rendering the poor homeless.
Referring to the razing of huts in SR Nagar and Kovallakunta bastis, the leaders criticised the district administration for evicting the poor from their localities leaving the big fish who encroached on government land go scot-free. The government will bite the dust, the leaders warned the TRS government.
