Over 104 were found to be running without proper licenses from the District Women and Child Development Agency (DWCDA) officials.

DWCDA officials are turning a blind eye to the issue while only five hostels run with the proper licensing.

The DWCDA project director, K Krishna Kumari said that she would take strict action against women and girl hostel organizers who fail to present proper permissions from the DWCDA to run hostels.

Deputy Commissioner of Police for Law and Order, G Pala Raju said that police officials would conduct inspections at women and girl hostels in the city from next week .

He mentioned that the city police officials conducted surprise inspections in 38 women and girl hostels in the city between April 12 to 16 to check the implementation of rules and regulations of hostels norms including security, peaceful atmosphere at the hostels.

He said that women hostel management must appoint women warden and a women security guard while the hostel premises is surveiled through CCTV. “Hostel management must maintain the register regarding in and out time of women and girls in hostel,” he added.

He mentioned that the Mahila Mitra members were creating awareness over women and girl safety to the hostel organisers in the city and hostels management needed to register their organisations at the concerned offices to run hostels.
