Nalgonda: Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Monday felt that decreasing forest cover in the district was the main reason behind rising temperatures.

Addressing the officials and public representatives at a review meeting on government flagship program Haritha Haram in Nalgonda on Monday, Reddy informed that forest cover in the state has reached a deplorable level due to the mistakes of Andhra rulers.

He said now it was the duty of everyone to increase the forest cover through Haritha Haram. Apart from planting saplings on a large scale in the three districts, every person must be encouraged to take part in the programme and plant as many saplings as possible on the premises of their houses to provide better tomorrow for future generations.

Stating that Nalgonda, Suryapet and Yadadri districts must reach targets of third phase of Haritha Haram programme, he advised public representatives to motivate people to take part in the programme and make it a grand success. On the occasion, the Minister released a poster on Haritha Haram which was designed by Nalgonda district youth associations.

Nalgonda Collector Gaurav Uppal, SP Prakash Reddy, ZP Chiarman Balu Naik, TSFDC chairman Banda Narender Reddy, MPs Gutha Sukender Reddy and Boora Narsaiah Goud, MLAs Vemula Veeresham, Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy and local body representatives of erstwhile Nalgonda participated in the meeting.
