Sircilla: The State government is determined to identify persons, who stopped manufacturing gudumba or illicit liquor to provide rehabilitation, Excise Enforcement Director Akun Sabharwal said.

A meeting was held with the officials of police and excise departments along with the beneficiaries of rehabilitation here at Padmanayak Kalyana Mandapam in Sircilla on Tuesday.

Speaking at the meeting, Akun Sabharwal said that the State government was taking necessary steps to sanction about Rs 2 lakh for the people, who stopped illicit liquor trade for their rehabilitation. The beneficiaries must not indulge in illicit liquor business again, he warned.

Interacting with the beneficiaries, Akun Sabharwal asked them what they will do with the amount. Answering to his question, Battini Mallesham and Veerya Naik said that they will start dairy farm and Banothu Kanakavva said that she will open a provisional store and promised that they will not indulge in gudumba business again.

“Utilise the opportunity being given by the government for rehabilitation the people must develop financially without going back to illegal business,” advised District Collector D Krishna Bhaskar.

District Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet said that by conducting vigorous raids and organising number of awareness programmes along with the officials of excise department, the manufacture of gudumba and illicit liquor were brought under control in the district.

Officer on Special Duty M M Farooqi, Deputy Commissioner of excise department Venkatesh Netha, Excise Superintendent M Shankaraiah and District Welfare officers were also present along with others.
