Kakatiya Nandana Vanam to spur tourism
Warangal, touted as the tourism and cultural capital of Telangana State, will soon have an eco-friendly park, christened as Kakatiya Nandana Vanam, near Elkathurthy, 15 km west of Hanamkonda.

The Forest department, which proposed to set up the park, will develop its entire 89-acre land stretch abutting the NH-563 into a tourism spot so that people could revel amid nature. Although the tri-cities of Warangal-Hanamkonda-Kazipet have a couple of big parks – Public Garden and Kakatiya Musical Garden – the quiet outdoors of the proposed park which is only a 15-minute drive is certain to attract the people especially living in concrete jungle devoid of trees.
The project, which is likely to cost Rs 1.5 crore, will have a play area for children, cycling track, walkers track, cafeteria and space for car parking. It’s learnt that solar energy harvesting will be adopted to maintain the park. This apart, the proposed layout includes forest range office and staff quarters. To speed up the project, the government has already released Rs 40 lakh.
The forest wing has also plans to develop the Oora cheruvu (lake), a couple of kilometers away from the proposed park. However, it’s in the preliminary planning stage, the authorities are of the opinion that the lake is ideal to develop so that it could attract birds from all over the country and internationally.
Talking to The Hans India, Forest Range Officer B Mayuri said: “The design is ready for Kakatiya Nandana Vanam park. Once we get the estimates from the Roads and Buildings Department, tenders will be called for.” Referring to the Oora cheruvu (lake) development, she said that the matter is with the higher authorities and a decision will be taken after examining the viability of the project.
Elkathurthy sarpanch G Madhavi and ZPTC Munigadapa Lavanya said that the proposed park will bring recognition to their village apart from boosting the local economy.
Meanwhile, it’s learnt that the forest wing is also examining the possibility of constructing a check dam-like structure across a stream emerging from scenic Inuparatiguttalu (hillocks) near Damera village, just about 5 km from the proposed park.
