Khammam: District Collector D S Lokesh Kumar directed the officials concerned to take necessary steps for successful implementation of Phase III of Haritha Haram.

Speaking at a coordination committee meeting with officials and peoples representatives in Khammam on Tuesday, the Collector said all the necessary measures should be taken for the successful implementation of third phase of Haritha Haram programme by planting as many as 1.95 crore saplings in the district.

Chairman of the Seed Development Corporation Kondabala Koteshwar Rao said the State government had taken a very good initiative to increase the green cover from 25 per cent to 33 per cent through implementation of Haritha Haram.

Village Protection Committees with ZPTC’s, MPTC’s and Village Sarpanches must be formed to protect the planted saplings and to implement the Haritha Haram successfully in the district, he advised.

Zilla Parishad Chairperson Gadepally Kavitha said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was determined to plant as many as 280 crore saplings across the State under Haritha Haram. The district had reached its target of planting 40 lakh saplings in each constituency in the previous two phases of the programme.

This year also, the officials must work with determination to reach the target and must make the programme a grand success, she suggested.

Chief Planning Officer of Zilla Parishad Marapaka Nagesh, Project Officer of District and Rural Development Agency Muralidhar Rao, Divisional Forest Officer Sathish Kumar, District Panchayat Officer Srinivas Reddy, recipient of Padma Shri Award Vanajeevi Daripalli Ramaiah and ZPTC’s, MPTC’s and Sarpanches were present along with the district Forest officials.
