Nalgonda: World No Tobacco Day was celebrated on Wednesday in Nalgonda town in a befitting manner with intensive campaigns against consumption of tobacco products and smoking in particular. Doctors of IMA, Indian Dental Association, students and staff of Kamineni Institute of Dental sciences, District TB Control Board, Walkers’ Association, medical representatives, Kabaddi Sports Association, autorickshaw unions and others participated in the programme.

All members of these associations gathered at the labour adda at Ramagiri and Bhaskar Talkies centres and addressed the labourers and explained the ill effects of tobacco products on health and how it damages vital organs leading to cancer, asthma and other diseases. They appealed to the people to stop smoking gradually and explained how passive smoke affects healthy people on par with smokers.

The women who gathered at the venues were requested to impress upon their men to stop smoking and convince their husbands that using tobacco products leads to serious diseases ann it would disturb the entire family structure.

After addressing the labourers at two addas, the members of the associations gathered at Clock Tower centre and campaigned against tobacco by raising slogans with placards against tobacco consumption. It was announced that a Tobacco Cessation Ward would be started in KIMS Narketpally soon.

Dr Vasantha Kumari, president IMA, Dr Jayaprakash Reddy, Dr Pulla Rao, Dr AV Srinivas Rao, Dr Anita Rani, Dr Arundhathi, Dr Rajeshwari and Dr Gourisri, members of IMA Nalgonda Dr Vikram Reddy, Dr O Srinivas and members of Dental Association, students and staff of Kamineni Dental College, Suresh Gupta, environmentalist, medical representatives and social workers attended the programmes.
