Pembarthi (Janagaon): In what is termed as a peak of obsessive superstition, locals dug the highway road near Pembarthi village believing that there was a Shiva Lingam underneath it.

According to villagers, L Manoj Kumar, a resident of Pembarthi, had been saying that there was a Shiva Lingam on the roadside of NH-163 for some time.

He recently started to say that Lord Shiva told him to dig the spot and make the Shiva Lingam open for people. Initially, the locals didn’t believe his words, but as he started to worship the place, they also followed him.

Finally on Monday, the locals keeping faith in Manoj’s words, engaged a poclain and dug the road to a depth of nearly 12 feet. They didn’t find anything.

Meanwhile, Jangaon inspector M Srinivas rushed to the spot and stopped the digging. The police took Manoj, Pembarthi Sarpanch P Siddi Lingam and some others, who allegedly supported Manoj, into custody. However, they were let off later, it’s learnt.
