Jagtial: About 21,048 members were identified as beneficiaries under ‘sheep rearing scheme’ in the district, out of which sheep units will be distributed to 10,225 persons this year and to the remaining 10,823 members next year, District Collector Dr A Sharath informed.

He chaired a review meeting with the officials of Animal Husbandry department along with the team members, who went to Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh for collecting sheep, at his chamber in the Collectorate here on Tuesday.

For collecting sheep, two teams were sent to Chandrapur and Sholapur districts of Maharashtra and another two teams to Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Kurnool and Nellore of Andhra Pradesh.

Each unit consists of about 20 sheep and one male sheep, which costs Rs 1.25 lakh. The units will be distributed to the beneficiaries from June 20. Special supervising officials were appointed with division-level officers for perfect implementation of the scheme, the Collector said.

He reviewed sheep availability, their insurance and the cost with the officials concerned and ordered them to tag each and every sheep and also to insure them immediately after purchasing them.

Metpally Sub-Collector Mushraff Ali, Jagtial Rural Development Officer Narender, District Veterinary Officer Dr K Ashok Raju and officials of Animal Husbandry department were present along with others.
