​Warangal: Works have been launched under Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) to remove silt and garbage from the nalas (storm water drains) in view of the rainy season.

The City Mayor, N Narender, said 58 works with Rs 1.27 crores have been taken up to prevent overflowing of drains. He inspected nalas at different locations in the city and asked the officials to speed up the works.

He advised the officials to enter the work details in a log book to maintain transparency and also to monitor the progress of works execution. The officials should ensure that no area in the city submerges due to overflowing nalas during the rainy season.

Earlier on the day, the Mayor along with the Municipal Commissioner, Shruti Ohja, has inspected locations to stock the saplings to be procured for ensuing Haritha Haram programme under the corporation limits.

Mayor Narender said the saplings would be stocked at Ammavaripet, Deshaipet, Municipal Park at Balasamudram and other places to distribute them to the public.

This year, KUDA planned to procure five lakh saplings additionally for the plantation programme. Plans have been chalked out to plant 10 lakh saplings at Madikonda, he said while appealing the officials and staff of the corporation to extend their cooperation for the success of Haritha Haram programme.
