​Nalgonda: Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy has stated that the government was giving top priority to welfare, security and empowerment of women in the state.
On Thursday, the Minister attended as chief guest to the one-day workshop on Arogyalaxmi scheme for Anganwadis held at Laxmi Gardens in Nalgonda.
Addressing the gathering, Reddy said it was the duty of everyone to strengthen Anganwadis for the welfare of children, pregnant and lactating women. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was doing more than what he promised during the last elections, he felt.
Establishment of SHE teams in the state for the security of women not only reduced the atrocities against women, but also improved confidence among them, he said, adding that to eradicate gender discrimination and selling of baby girl and female foeticide in the state, the state government had introduced Kalyanalaxmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes to provide Rs 75,000 financial assistance at the time of marriage of poor girls.
The government further sanctioned government residential schools and women colleges across the state to provide free education to girls up to graduation and launched KCR Kits programme with a view to promote institutional deliveries and to provide nutritious food to pregnant women.
The state government giving Rs 12,000 and another Rs 1,000 if the women gave birth to a baby girl, he said.
Apart from this, the government also issuing three acres land in the name of women, besides Aasara pensions and pensions to single women, he added.
Understanding the practical problems of Anganwadi teachers, workers and supervisors, the government has enhanced their salaries, he said, advising Anganwadis to strive hard to meet the expectations of the Chief Minister.
District collector Gaurav Uppal, ZP Chairperson Balu Naik, TSFDC Chairman Banda Narender Reddy, Bhongir MLA Shekar Reddy, Nalgonda and Suryapet districts women coordinator Sharanya Reddy, District Library Chairman Rekala Badradri, ICDS officials Lalitha Kumari, Pushpalatha, CDPOs and Anganwadi workers participated in the programme.
