Penpahad: Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy felt that unfinished canal works of Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) were live example of discrimination of Andhra rulers towards Telangana.

The Minister on Thursday laid foundation stone for the construction of a tunnel, with an estimated cost of Rs 2.7 crore, at Dharmapuram of Penpahad mandal in Suryapet district.

Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said though he had been listening to that SRSP water would wet the lands of Suryapet division since he was 12-year-old, it could not be realised even after 40 years due to the negligence of previous rulers.

He assured that the works of tunnel would be completed in next two months and irrigation facility would be provided to 17,000 acres of 10,000 farmers.

He informed that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao sanctioned Rs 250 crore for the repairs to SRSP canals, whose works would be completed by end of the year.

Collector Surendra Mohan, Bhongir MLA Shekar Reddy, SRSP officials and local public representatives accompanied the Minister.
