Hyderabad: In a bizarre incident, a man from Nirmal district attempted suicide by consuming poison near the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) at Samatha Block in the Secretariat on Friday.

The security forces present there immediately shifted him to a nearby hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.

The police said Ch Devanna from Timmapur village of Nirmal district came to the Secretariat along with his wife and two daughters to meet Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and some officials.

When he could not meet the officials, Devanna consumed pesticides brought along with him and fell unconscious. He also left a suicide letter purportedly written by him at the spot.

In the letter, he held that Housing Minister A Indrakaran Reddy, TRS MLA Vittal Reddy and Nirmal Joint Collector Shiva Lingaiah were responsible for the miserable condition of his family.

He alleged that these three persons had been harassing him for the last three years and also denied employment opportunity. He, however, did not state the reasons for his allegation. Devanna requested the Chief Minister to render justice to his family, in his note.

In another letter recovered from his possession, Devanna explained his woes by saying that he spoiled his entire life by supporting the Praja Rajyam Party and the party founder and film actor Chiranjeevi’s family.

The letter said he tried to meet Chiranjeevi several times but security personnel did not allow him to meet the actor. Unable to meet his family needs, Devanna said, he was taking the extreme step and requested Jana Sena leader and film actor Pawan Kalyan to take care of his family members.
