​Suryapet: District Collector Surendra Mohan stated that a minimum of 40,000 saplings must be planted and protected in each Gram Panchayat to make Haritha Haram programme a grand success in the district.

The Collector visited Gandhi Nagar of Suryapet mandal on Tuesday and examined the pits dug for teak plants and also trenches in the agriculture fields under Jalanidhi programme.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector informed that 89 nurseries were established to make available 1.30 crore saplings in the district under Haritha Haram programme. Of the total saplings, 45 teak plants would be supplied to farmers. He advised villagers to select fruit, flower, drumstick plants under backyard farming.

Later, Surendra Mohan participated in the Badi Bata programme held at Pillalamarri of Suryapet mandal.Addressing the villagers, he assured that government high school in the village would be upgraded as model school.

Underlining that government programme would succeed with the participation of people, the Collector advised teachers, students and their parents to extend their cooperation for the Haritha Haram programme.

Stating that government schools had good facilities and best teaching staff, he urged villagers to enroll their children in local government school. He also visited the Anganwadi centre in the village on the day.

Assistant Collector Uday Kumar, District Education Officer Venkat Narsamma and others accompanied the Collector.
