Nalgonda: Expressing pleasure over the timely rains, farmers across the Nalgonda district started agricultural works for Kharif season. Villages in the district are witnessing festival like atmosphere with farmers tilling their lands with bullock carts and tractors to sow the seeds.

Earlier, predicting low rain fall in Rabi season, the farmers carefully took up the crop cultivation in limited areas in the district. According to official information and as per the Kharif action plan readied by the Department of Agriculture, main crops like paddy, cotton, jowar, corn, red gram and sunflower would be cultivated in about 3,40,000 hectares in the district.

Of the total, paddy cultivation would be taken in about 70,000 hectares, cotton in 2,40,000 hectares, red gram in 14,000 hectares, corn in 400 acres, Sunflower in 50 acres and jowar in 700 acres.

Meanwhile, Venkat Reddy, a farmer of Marriguda of Nalgonda mandal, expressed his concern over the step-motherly attitude of government towards farming community.

He informed that most of the farmers could not get their amount for sold farm produces in Rabi season. He further informed that, no agriculture official guiding the farmers in the district in a proper way to make agriculture sector a profitable one.
