Officials send samples of sub-standard spices to Hyderabad for testing

Nalgonda: Following information about a trader selling sub-standard quality spices, officials of food, vigilance and police departments raided Somavarapu Ashok’s house at Indiramma Colony of Arjalabavi in Nalgonda on Thursday.

They collected samples of mustard, cumin, pepper, fenugreek seeds, other Indian spices, confectionery, dry fruits from the trader’s house and sent them to Hyderabad laboratory for testing.

The trader has been reportedly packing and selling the sub-standard spices and dry fruits in small pockets in the name of Venkateshwara kirana without any trade license and earning money in backdoor by evading taxes.

District food inspector Chandra Shekar said based on reliable information, along with vigilance and police officials they raided Ashok’s house and found out that he has been packing and selling Indian spices, confectionery and other food items without taking food safety, standard and packing licenses, which are mandatory.

After obtaining the test reports, cases would be filed against the trader under food safety and standard act. Vigilance CI GC Raju, Nalgonda rural SI Mothi Ram participated in the raid along with the staff.
