One crore seed balls to be prepared in the district in one day on June 21

Jangaon: The district administration has on Friday taken up massive ‘Mission Seed Ball Bombing’ on the Champak Hills on the outskirts of the town as part of the ongoing Haritha Haram programme.

Drawing inspiration from a retired IAS officer Amara Narayana of Karnataka, who turned the parched hillocks into green forests, the administration has ensured preparation of about 60,000 seed balls in two phases, under the aegis of DRDA and forest department.

These seed balls have been released on the length and breadth of the hills, where there were no trees. The District Collector, A Devasena, walked through the hillocks carrying a bag full of seed balls and dropped about 2,000 seed balls all over Champak Hills.

Nearly 200 students, government employees and others took part in the programme. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector stated that the seed ball mobbing has been taken up as a mission in the district. It was aimed to transform the district into a ‘Haritha Vanam’.

‘It is being planned to take up a record breaking event wherein one crore seed balls will be prepared on a single day on June 21. The residents in every village in the district are engaged and in each village 50,000 seed balls will be prepared to take the total count to one crore,’ Devasena informed. The seed balls thus prepared would be released on the hillocks and forests in the district, she added.

Joint Collector M Vanaja Devi, District Revenue Officer Malathi, District Rural Development Officer Jayachandra Reddy, forest, panchayat raj, education department, excise, municipal and DPRO office staff took part in the programme.
