​Nalgonda: The sixth death anniversary of Telangana ideologue Kothapalli Jayashankar was observed in Nalgonda, Suryapet and Nalgonda districts on Wednesday. The speakers recalled his contributions to the separate Telangana statehood movement and paid glowing tributes to him.

Leaders of TRS and Telangana Jagruthi garlanded the statue of Jayashankar at the municipal office park in the town. Speaking on the occasion, TRS Nalgonda Assembly constituency in-charge Dubbaka Narasimha Reddy said that Prof Jayshankar was instrumental in keeping alive the separate Telangana movement for over six decades and took up the issue at the national level, convincing the political parties on the need for separate statehood for the people of the Telangana region.

District Libraries chairman Rekala Bhadradri and Telangana Jagruthi district president Bhonagiri Devender said Prof Jayashankar created awareness among the masses regarding the discrimination being meted out to the Telangana region by Andhra rulers. He was instrumental in bringing together the people of Telangana and spearheading the movement.

Energy Minister Jagdish Reddy along with municipal chairman Ganduri Pravallika paid tributes to Jayashankar at his camp office in Suryapet. After garlanding his portrait, he recalled his services and contributions to the Telangana movement. He devoted his entire life fighting against the discrimination shown towards the people of Telangana.

At the Collectorate in Suryapet, a meeting was held in connection with the death anniversary of K Jayashankar and the District Collector along with employees paid floral tributes to his portrait. Also, Prof Jayashankar’s death anniversary was observed in Yadadri district.
