Mahbubnagar: The Mahbubnagar District Olympic Association (DOA) is marred by groupism and there is a lot of confusion prevailing among sports persons and officials alike, which has a negative impact on the development of sports in the district.

The DOA has been divided into two groups, which have wide differences on every issue. This groupism in the Association came to light on the occasion of ‘Olympic Day Run’ programme organised in the district.

While one group inaugurated the Olympic Day on Wednesday (June 21), the other group tried to show its upper hand by organising the programme on Thursday (June 22). The non-unity among these two groups is creating confusion among the sports persons and district sports authorities.

While commenting on the prevailing groupism, MLA Srinivas Goud said, “Groupism and differences among the members of District Olympic Association will kill the sport spirit and it is not good for the development of sports. The members of the association must take steps to resolve the differences and create conducive environment for the sports to develop in the district.”

Because of the prevailing groupism, sports persons are going through tough time as they lack encouragement and support. “Lack of unity among members is a bad omen for the sports in the district. It is high time the authorities should intervene and resolve the differences and create a sportive environment to help improve sports.

If there is no coordination among the members, it obviously creates confusion and the sports persons will not be able to bring out their best efficiencies as they will be marred by hurdles, both psychologically and physically,” said a sports person on condition of anonymity.

It is believed that because of groupism and differences, lot of sports developmental activities in the district have come to a standstill. For instance, even though the State government had accorded sanction for the construction of a mini-stadium a year ago, nothing has been done towards its construction.

Similarly, even though Rs. 2.5 crore is sanctioned for the renovation of existing stadium, not a single activity has been taken up in this direction.
