He chaired a review meeting with Sarpanches of various villages here at Technical Training and Development Centre (TTDC).

The Collector said that at present as many as 23 different schemes have been implemented in villages for supplying pure drinking water, out of which only three were useful after the implementation of Mission Bhagiratha project.

He ordered the Sarpanches to speed up the pipeline laying works to supply water through Mission Bhagiratha project, taking the responsibility of handling of water projects right from today by investing the funds released under 14th Financial Commission.

Motors will be arranged in Palair and Wyra constituencies under Mission Bhagiratha project along with testing them for trial run in August month, informed the Collector.

The government will invest Rs 8 crore for maintenance of various water projects in the coming six months till the implementation of Mission Bhagiratha, he added.

The filter beds in Palair constituency will be extended up to Kusumanchi once Mission Bhagiratha is implemented. After December there will not be any burden on village panchayat for the maintenance of water projects, he added.

Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Marapaka Nagesh said that all the village panchayats stood idle in collecting the taxes. Out of Rs 25 crore the village panchayats had collected about Rs 22 crore in the form of taxes.

He urged the Sarpanches of various villages to take the responsibility of maintaining water projects utilising the funds available in the village panchayats for a short period of six months and later the government will take the responsibility.

District Panchayat Raj Officer Srinivas Reddy said that 40 per cent of funds released by 14thFinancial Commission can be utilised for maintenance of water projects and advised them to speed up pipeline laying works under Mission Bhagiratha by coordinating with the officials of Rural Water Supply (RWS) department.

Transco Superintending Engineer Ramesh, Panchayat Raj department officials and Sarpanches of various villages were present along with the officials of RWS department.
