​Karimnagar: On the occasion of second anniversary of the Smart City Mission, the Central government released a list of 30 cities on Friday, including Karimnagar, to be included in the Smart City Mission.

With this third round of selection, a total of 90 cities are going to be under the Smart City Mission of the Central government, which has been launched in 2015.

Out of the 45 cities competed for Smart City slots, 30 have been selected, which would be developed as smart cities. Under the Smart City Mission, the Centre provides Rs 500 crore to each city over a period of five years for implementing various projects.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district president Kotha Srinivas Reddy thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu for including Karimnagar under Smart City Mission.

Telangana Rastra Samiti (TRS) leaders of Karimnagar district celebrated the occasion by distributing sweets in the city on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, they said that the Central government had taken the decision and included Karimnagar under Smart City Mission on Friday because of the initiation taken by the IT Minister, K T Rama Rao, who met the Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu recently and requested him to include the district in Smart Cities list.

BJP leaders and activists celebrated the occasion by cleansing a photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and by bursting crackers here on the day.

BJP district president K Srinivas Reddy said that the Centre was determined for the all round development of the cities present in the country, irrespective of political parties ruling in different regions without showing any discrimination.

Under Smarty City Mission, the Karimnagar district will get Rs 100 crores from the Central government along with an additional Rs 100 crores from the State government every year by which sustainable development of city is possible, he informed.

He demanded the State government to release funds under Smart City Mission without delay for the development city to take place as early as possible.

BJP leaders K Anjanjeyulu, B Satyanarayana, E Nageshwar Reddy, K Ganapathi, G Satish, K Murali, G Swapna, D Sridhar, S Vidya Sagar, G Susheela, A Chandareddy, J Shankar, P Sujatha Reddy, D Madhavi, Sharada, Veeresham, Md Basheer, Padmanagar MPTC Shiva Kumar and B Mahendar were present along with others.
