​Kothagudem: The police arrested two CPI (Maoists) commanders, while combing the area near Taliperu project in Charla mandal of Bhadrachalam division, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sunil Dutt said here on Friday.

Speaking to newsmen at Charla police station, the ASP said that in view of the movement of Maoists, the Charla police, CRPF and special party police have undertaken combing operations. During the combing, two persons - Kalma Lakma and Podiyam Idamaiah - were found moving under suspicious circumstances. It was learnt during interrogation that they were Maoists’ commanders, the ASP said.

Kalma Lakma, belonging to Chennapuram village of Charla mandal, has been working as the commander of the Revolutionary People’s Committee of Maoists and 15 criminal cases were filed against him in the police stations of Charla and Dummugudem. He is also accused in two murder cases, the ASP said.

Podiyam Idamaiah, belonging to Errampadu village of Charla mandal, is the commander of Chetana Natya Mandali of Maoists. Several cases were registered against him also, the ASP said.The police recovered five kgs of tiffin box, the material used to make mines, ten metres wire, 24 iron pieces from their possession.
