Hanamkonda: Rajya Sabha member Capt V Lakshmikanta Rao has said country would never forget former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, who was highly regarded as the ‘Father of Economic Reforms’.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he demanded the Central government to confer the Bharat Ratna, country’s highest civilian award, on PV.

“PV, who was born in Laknepally in erstwhile Warangal district was a multi-faceted genius, a man of great integrity and a polyglot, who ran a minority government successfully between 1991 and 1996.

He fought against the autocracy of the Nizam government before climbing the ranks in politics,” the Captain said. PV’s tenure as the Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh was well remembered for his land reforms and strict implementation of Land Ceiling Act, he said.

He said in commemoration of PV’s 96th birth anniversary on Wednesday, Ekasila Education Society would conduct several programmes in Hanamkonda. KUDA chairman Marri Yadava Reddy, Mayor N Narender and Nagurla Venkateswarlu were among others present.
