Spurious seed sellers to be tried under PD Act

Karimnagar: Stringent action would be taken against those involved in selling of spurious seeds and pesticides, warned the Agriculture Officer Prakash in Peddapalli here on Tuesday.

To curb the menace of selling of spurious seeds, the officials of Agriculture and Police departments conducted raids on various seeds, fertilizers and pesticide shops in the town.

They inspected various shops, checked the quality of seeds and scrutinised the records in which the details of different commodities were mentioned.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, Agriculture Officer Prakash said stringent action would be taken against the owners of the seeds and pesticide shops along with lodging cases as per the Seed Act and Pesticide Act if they try to create artificial scarcity of seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and sell spurious seeds.

Those who cheat innocent farmers with fertilisers would also be tried under the PD Act, he warned.
Assistant Sub-Inspectors of Police Jagadish and Venkanna were present along with the officials of Agricultural Department.

Karimnagar circle inspector Ravinder said the State government was striving hard for the welfare of farmers and the Preventive Detention Act would be registered against those selling fake seeds.

Ravinder along with Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Srinivas released a wall poster here at the local police station in Yellareddypet mandal on Tuesday warning people against selling fake seeds.

Speaking on the occasion, Ravinder said several steps were taken to curb the menace of fake seeds by the Police department. Some of the steps include creating awareness among the farmers, he added.

“After purchasing seeds, fertilisers and pesticides, the farmers must take a receipt from the shops without fail,” advised the CI.
