Trees are universal food providers: Mahabubabad Collector

Mahabubabad: Aiming to increase green cover across the State by planting crores of saplings since the plants are the ‘Universal food providers’, the State government introduced ‘Telanganaku Haritha Haram’ project, said District Collector Dr Preethi Meena.
She flagged off the publicity vehicle at the Collectorate here on Thursday, which is meant to give wide publicity for making the third phase of Haritha Haram programme successful. The third phase would commence in the second week of July in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that plants are useful in many ways. It is the plants which produce oxygen, the lift support of all living beings and it could be manufactured neither by man nor by machine, she pointed out.
As many as 1.13 crore of saplings will be planted in the district as part of the third phase, including 70 lakh teak saplings. Forest officials will distribute 40,000 saplings to each village panchayat.
Under the aegis of Public Relation Department, cultural artistes will conduct awareness programmes in 231 village panchayats in the district in the next 15 days to motivate people, said the Collector.
The Collector urged the people to plant various kinds of saplings in educational institutions, houses,open places belonging to government along with bunds of lakes and tanks and on either side of the roads and railway lines.
