The applicant should be aged 35 or below on January 1, 2018.

Writers in any of the 24 languages recognised by the Akademi can submit their applications on the SahityaAkademi website by August 16.

The books should be submitted along with the attested copy of the proof of date of birth, according to a statement from the Ministry of Culture.

SahityaAkademi introduced the YuvaPuraskar in 2011 to encourage young writers writing in Indian languages.

The best book in the category nets a reward of Rs 50,000, a plaque and citation.

The languages recognised by the Akademi are: Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Odiya, Punjabi, Rajasthani, Santhali, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
