Hanamkonda: Mime is an integral part of every individual as during the day-to-day chores a person tend to communicate with signs instead of words, said noted Telugu cinema and theatre personality Thanikella Bharani.

In the days, when spoken and written language was not developed, humans used to communicate with each other with sign language. And it has transformed itself into as an art form, mime, he explained.

The actor inaugurated the 12-day mime workshop in Hanamkonda on Monday. The workshop titled ‘Utthhanam’ is being conducted by Indian Mime Academy headed by Mime Madhu, a mime artist of international repute, in collaboration with departments of language and culture and tourism.

Informing that he served as a mime lecturer in the past, Bharani stated that learning mime will be an additional tool to the cinema actors to be more expressive and added that he has employed mime in all theatre performances he organised.

‘Besides being famous for its rich heritage monuments, Warangal district has also produced renowned writers, poets and artistes. The district’s contribution to the field of art and culture is immense,’ the actor said. He lauded Madhu for striving hard popularise the art form.

MLA D Vinay Bhaskar asserted that Warangal is going to be a cultural hub in the State with several events being conducted every month. Several events like ‘Kite Festival’, Kashmir Festival’, Orugallu Kala Vaibhavam were being conducted, making the city as a happening place.

Mime Madu, who happens to be a native of Warangal, has brought laurels to the district with his expertise in the art form. Youth, interested in acting and dancing will need to learn mime first and workshop will be useful for them, the MLA hoped. Mayor N Narender assured all possible assistance to the artistes and promote arts and culture in the city.

The Director of Language and Culture Mamidi Harikrishna said the department has been making efforts towards the revival of Telangana culture. Mime workshops will also be conducted in all the districts in the State.

Marking the inaugural of the workshop, world famous mimicry artist Nerella Venumadhav was felicitated. Writers Potlapalli Srinivas Rao, G Manohar Babu and District Tourism Officer M Shivaji are among those present at the event.
