CPI M-L (New Democracy) central committee member Darshan Singh Khatkar has said that the Adivasis would revolt against the government to save their lands and standing crops if the government goes ahead with destroying their lives in the name of Harita Haram programme.
Bhadrachalam: CPI M-L (New Democracy) central committee member Darshan Singh Khatkar has said that the Adivasis would revolt against the government to save their lands and standing crops if the government goes ahead with destroying their lives in the name of Harita Haram programme.
“Tribals are dependent on forests for their livelihood. Snatching away their lands would mean destroying their livelihood,” he averred.
The CPI M-L (New Democracy) activists took out a huge rally in the temple town from the bridge road to the office of Integrated Tribal Development Authority (ITDA) via bus station and Kunavaram road.
The rally culminated in dharna at the ITDA office. The CPI M-L (New Democracy) would not remain silent if the lands of the tribals were to be alienated in favour of the corporates in the name of Harita Haram.
Addressing the tribals in the temple town, Khatkar demanded pattas to the lands being cultivated by Adivasis under Podu and stop the high-handedness of the government and forest officials.
Referring to the claims of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao that they are true nationalists, he described them as anti-nationals and clarified that the Adivasis were the only true patriots.
AIKMS national president Vemulapalli Venkataramaiah and CPI-ML (New Democracy) assistant secretary Potu Ranga Rao said that the Forest Rights Act came into force not because of the benevolence of the rulers of the country, but because of the struggles launched by the Adivasis.
Each Adivasi family living in forests prior to 2006 should be given at least 10 acres and the rest of the tribals and non-tribals should be given lands as per the laws of the land.
Describing the KCR government as the government of words, he blasted it for not implementing the Forest Rights Act.
